Second volume of a two volume spellbinder!

A very detailed historical account of the expedition to find The Northwest Passage- written to comply with President Jefferson's request, it contains many details- some of which "get in the way" if you're reading this for its storyline. It's an accurate log of the entire expedition- fascinating, but perhaps overly detailed if you're looking for simply an adventure story. A fascinating document, it recounts a most amazing journey, pointing to resourcefulness and drive that are in short supply today.

Great to read original source

I love history and while I had read much about the Lewis & Clark expedition, this was the first time I read the original journals of the historic journey. I found the material immensely interesting and kept turning to modern maps to locate points along the way. It made me want to do a trip along the route (bucket list?). Reading this journal (as well as volume 1, which was a free download) demonstrates the value and pleasure of spending time in the original sources when studying history.

footsteps of some early brave men and one woman

I have a copy of the British map pu blished in 1812 of the contenental United States. Of course it is inaccurate but at that time it was unique. The Lewis/Clark account is as good as it gets. Its not like a trivial novel being composed from a distance. Every entry is harish. reality. Never before seen by white men were the natives of the unknown world that simply stretched westward. One cannot just read the account - it is a read of encounters that were never dreamed by the reader.
