A YA Charmed
By Katherine Petersdorf
If you love the paranormal and young adult novels, then this is the series for you. It isn't your typical soft series with a boy and girl fighting to be in love or a crazy love triangle at the opening. In fact, the romance that goes on in this series will surprise you, shock you, and throw you through a loop should you read at least to book 6.

It is also a fast read, each of them is. I am a huge fan of Novellas, and if you like fast, fun, enthralling paranormal reads then you will love Sweep. The way the books read is like reading a TV series format, each novel feeling like 1 or 2 episodes in a season.

Originally, I found this novel in my high school library. I was very into Wicca and anything that was dark and/or paranormal when I was in high school because my mother was such a tight Christian. I only checked it out to upset her, but when I got sick I decided that I would read it. I actually fell in love with the story. I loved it so much that I checked out the first five at my high school and read them in less than two days; I wanted more, so I insisted that my school purchase all the others. I even wrote AR tests for them, a program Washington uses with reading and students.

The female lead, Morgan Rowlands, is the typical tomboy girl that most girls in the USA can automatically relate to. She isn't obsessed with pop culture, and she doesn't wear a mountain of makeup, two things that right off of the bat made me fall in love with her.

The story isn't superfast paced (like an action novel), but it also isn't as slow paced as a Twilight book, which was something I loved about the book and all novellas, I don't want to feel like randomly flipping pages trying to find the next scene with action, conversation, or something of value to the storyline.

From the start, I wasn't a huge fan of Cal, he seemed very fake to me. I couldn't relate to her being in love with him, especially when her best friend was. Still, the relationship between Cal, Bree, and Morgan simulated the relationship going on between myself, my best friend, and my high school crush and that may have helped for me to become even more tied to the series, the way it mirrored my life as my life was happening.

I have read all of the books in the series, including the sequel novel that I would like to pretend never happened.

Normally, I would list out everything that I loved and everything that I hated in my review, but there was very little in this series that I hated and want to rant about in a bad way, so I give Cate Tiernan props. I'm in my mid 20's now and I still read these books at least once a year, when I need a little inspiration or a break I randomly pick one, flip to a random page and read for a few minutes to enthrall myself in what inspired me to become a writer.
